
The Most Deadly Sea Creature Wall
There are
many things in the sea that are venomous – too many to list!
Here are some dangerous and common enough to make our countdown.

#10 Stinging Anemones
Stinging cells that can get on your bare skin.
May cause mild to severe painful rash.
#9 Stinging Corals
Most famous is the Fire Corals.
Other hydroids that look more like plants called Fire Weed.

#8 Moray Eel
Up to 11ft in length, the Moray Eel has razor sharp teeth.
The more severe injuries include loss of hand use, amputations and serious
infections.

#7 Scorpion Fish
A large group of perhaps 200 very similar poisonous fish.
Hundreds of reported stings with at least several deaths in modern times.

#6 Sting Ray
Up to 12ft long and 500 Lbs.
Hundreds of even thousands of sting victims each year world-wide. Very few
deaths but very painful.

#5 Portuguese Man o’ War
Stinging tentacles up to 160ft long.
Favorite meal of Sea Turtles who are immune to sting. Some deaths but mostly a
very painful sting.
#4 Lionfish
Each razor sharp spine has its own venom sack filled with neurotoxin. It
paralyzes all muscles, including the heart.
Most victims are stung when wading in shallow, rocky tide pools. Deaths are rare
but have occurred.

Stonefish
Closely related to Lionfish and Scorpionfish. Has an “unlucky” 13 super sharp
hypodermic spines each with a poison sack. Most poisonous of group, many deaths.
#3 Blue Ring Octopus
Usually brown or yellowish in color. Becomes electric blue when threatened.
Bites occur when people pick them up while beach combing or diving. Many deaths.

#2 Sea Snake
There are at least 40 similar species that inhabit tropical seas around the
world.
Most bites occur when fishermen try to get them out of nets, or when divers
harass them. Many deaths.
#1 Box Jellyfish
The most advanced of the Jellyfish. Has primitive eyes and maybe what could be
considered a brain.
Average one or two human deaths a year and dozens of serious injuries, mostly in
Australia.
